The project Restores Tocantins is helping to rebuild 15 hectares of Cerrado in the state, through the technique of direct sowing of native seeds, where the collected seeds are thrown directly in the place to be restored. Through this collection, processing and storage of seeds of native tree species a large germplasm bank was constituted and Demonstration Restoration Modules (MDR) were installed in degraded and altered Permanent Preservation (APP) and Legal Reserve (RL) areas, in the properties. rural areas of central Tocantins. MDRs will be monitored through periodic evaluations of parameters and indicators of ecological succession and potential economic use.
The main objective of the project is to promote the rational use of the native vegetation and vegetation cover of the state of Tocantins, transforming underutilized areas into strategic zones for the state economy, reducing the cost of restoration and providing the economic viability of these areas to the producer. rural. This project is an initiative of the State University of Tocantins (UNITINS) in technical cooperation with forestry / rural extension, promotion, inspection and planning institutions in the state of Tocantins, and is supported by research / teaching institutions from the third sector and private resources of landowners.
